White Pages Covers Program
White Pages® puts the (energy efficient) spotlight on Gordon Fraser-Quick
April 21, 2011
South Lismore resident, Gordon Fraser-Quick has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Lismore Yellow Pages® and White Pages® book which will be distributed throughout Lismore, Ballina, Byron Bay, Murwillumbah, Coffs Harbour, Grafton and surrounding towns from 23 April 2011.
Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its books.
The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.
Gordon’s selection recognises his commitment to promoting the benefits of green living within the Lismore community.
In 2008, Gordon began a mission to make Lismore a solar-reliant town so he established the Lismore Climate Care Solar Rollout. With overwhelming support and enthusiasm from the community, Lismore now boasts the largest concentration of solar power of any post code in regional Australia. The project prompted hundreds of homes to install solar panels, which also created 28 local jobs.
At present, Gordon spends much of his free time hosting sustainability events including Sustainability Soul forums. These events encourage like-minded local residents and interstate visitors to come together to share and discuss ideas and strategies on how to improve current sustainability initiatives.
“I feel educating the community about sustainability is the first step to a healthy future. Without this knowledge people are unaware of the effects their lifestyle choices have on the environment. I feel honoured to be recognised for my volunteer work and passion,” said Gordon.
Amongst many accolades, Gordon has been the recipient of the local council Australia Day Award in 2009, and the Southern Cross University Alumnus of the Year Award in 2010.

2008/09: For the 2008/09 Celebrating Australian Flavour theme, Byron Bay resident Donald Recsei was selected for his contribution to the Byron Farmers’ Market and his commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture.
