White Pages Covers Program
White Pages® honours Cessnock Shed and Community Gardens founder Peter Torenbeek
July 27, 2011
Nulkaba resident Peter Torenbeek has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Hunter Valley Yellow Pages® and White Pages® book which will be distributed throughout Maitland, Cessnock, the Hunter Valley, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens and Raymond Terrace from 18 June 2011.
Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its books.
The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.
Peter’s selection recognises his commitment to bringing the community together and making the Hunter Valley a better place to live, in the establishment of the Cessnock Shed and Community Garden in 2005.
Currently serving as President, Peter established the Cessnock Shed as a space for the community to come together, and he now oversees the many local events, activities and programs that are run on the site.
Under Peter’s guidance, the Cessnock Shed and Community Garden lead a number of community initiatives including a busy Men’s Shed, accessible garden beds for seniors and community programs for the region’s retired, non-employed and school students.
“The Cessnock Shed and Community Garden was established in a hope of uniting local community members. It’s a place that allows members to gather and bond over common interests,” said Peter.
