White Pages Covers Program
White Pages® gives environmental enthusiast Liila Hass the green thumbs up
November 17, 2011
Cascades resident Liila Hass has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Hobart Yellow Pages® and White Pages® book, which will be distributed throughout Hobart and surrounding regions from 12 November 2011.
Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its books.
The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.
Liila’s selection recognises her commitment to helping Tasmania transition towards a sustainable future, as chairperson and founder of not-for-profit organisation Future Tasmania.
Liila founded Future Tasmania in 2005 to promote social change, research and action as well as to provide environmental education. The organisation encourages the development, communication and uptake of innovations and initiatives that create a healthy community, economy and environment in Tasmania.
In 2007, Liila co-founded support group Vegetarian Tasmania, which promotes the environmental and ethical benefits of a vegetarian diet while also exploring the link between the food we eat and our wellbeing.
“It is very humbling to be recognised for my efforts to create a better future for Tasmanians. I have a strong personal belief in sustainability and living mindfully. To be recognised for promoting this is wonderful,” said Liila.
Did you know? The past three local people to appear on the Hobart Yellow Pages® and White Pages® cover were:
2010/11: Peter Crosswell featured on the cover under the theme Courageous Australians. Peter was recognised for his commitment to Camp Quality Tasmania and for the courage he showed when saving two friends during the Port Arthur massacre.
2009/10: Rosetta resident Jenny Chapman appeared on the cover under the theme Creative Australians: Inspiring our Communities. Jenny is the founding musical director of the Choir of High Hopes Hobart, which is made up of more than 100 members who have experienced disadvantage during their lives.
2008/09: Bothwell residents John, Jill, William and George Bignell graced the cover under the theme Celebrating Australian Flavour. The family were recognised for their contribution to the Tasmanian gourmet revolution by producing innovative niche produce, including wasabi, on their farm at Bothwell, Tasmania.
