White Pages Covers Program
White Pages® celebrates Hervey Bay’s flavours from the sea
April 7, 2011
Maryborough resident, Elaine Lewthwaite has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Hervey Bay and Maryborough Yellow Pages® and White Pages® book which will be distributed throughout Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Bundaberg, Kingaroy, Murgon Districts, Gayndah and surrounding towns from 9 April 2011.
Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its books.
The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.
Elaine’s selection recognises her work in educating the community about the health and environmental benefits of local fresh seafood.
Elaine started the Hervey Bay Seafood Association in 1998 and since then they have hosted an annual event to showcase and promote local seafood businesses, and educate the community about the fresh seafood that is available..
As the Association’s President, Elaine has grown the community-run event from a small local festival to an event that now attracts over 10,000 people to the region.
By ensuring all seafood sold at the Festival is responsibly harvested from sustainable saltwater fisheries in Queensland, Elaine is further supporting the local industry.
“The Hervey Bay Seafood Festival encourages the community to support local seafood businesses. In doing so, we all help each other to build a healthy and sustainable future for our children,” said Elaine.
Elaine has received the Australia Day Community Event of the Year award for Hervey Bay three times. Her ongoing dedication to the Festival has helped make it the premier event it is today.
