White Pages® News
Welcome to White Pages Community!
December 7, 2009
Thank you for visiting White Pages® Community. In this article you’ll find out about what this site is and how it can help you, such as in the event of a public emergency.
What is White Pages® Community?
The White Pages® Community site has three key sections:
- White Pages® News: tips and news on how you can get more out of White Pages®
- Covers Program: the stories behind the faces that appear on your local directory
- Public Service Announcements: the place to go for emergency contact information in the event of a public emergency
Let’s look at each section in turn – starting with the section you are in, White Pages® News.
White Pages® News
White Pages® News is the place for articles about how you can get more out of White Pages® products including the print directory, online and mobile sites. For example, do you know that White Pages® now has a free iPhone app that can be downloaded? Find out more in the article "White Pages iPhone App launched".
Covers Program
Did you know that there are 55 White Pages® directories across Australia, and that every year we select people to appear on each cover according to a theme? In this section you will read about our Covers heroes – and even how you can become one! Don’t miss their stories – each has a remarkable experience to share, and you can certainly be proud of whoever is representing your local book.
Public Service Announcements
And lastly, the most important section of White Pages® Community for you to know about.
Imagine bushfires have forced you from your home and you’re temporarily staying with friends. You want to find out more about who can help you but are not sure which emergency services authority to contact.
By visiting White Pages® Community – which can be accessed via the homepage of White Pages Online or by going directly to whitepagescommunity.com.au – you will find contact information for key organisations that may be able to help you during emergencies. The information is also available on Internet enabled mobile phones by visiting White Pages®.
The Public Service Announcements section is designed to be a one stop shop so that people who are impacted by a public emergency can quickly and easily find the support they need. This section is a service provided by White Pages® to support the Australian community in times of public distress, and organisations involved in emergency management are offered the opportunity to publish on the site for free. Importantly, the information will not include an update on the status of the emergency; it will only provide information on who you should contact for assistance.
If an organisation you are looking for has not chosen to appear on White Pages® Community, you can click straight through to a search on White Pages® Online from the search button in the top right corner of this site.
What sort of public emergencies will be covered?
A Public Service Announcement will be triggered by a large scale event of a prolonged duration which involves significant destruction of lives or property. Examples of public emergences are the Queensland floods and Victorian bushfires in February 2009, the Bali bombings in 2002 or the Victorian Gas crisis in 1998. Issues of short duration and/or contained impact like power blackouts and hail storms would be unlikely to create a dedicated Public Service Announcement on the White Pages Community site, and instead a search of White Pages® Online for the appropriate authorities is your best course of action.
