Sydney’s top sustainability stars, Romilly Madew and Matthew Wright, have been selected to appear on the covers of this year’s Sydney White Pages® books in recognition of their work creating a better future for all Australians.

Each year Sensis, the publisher of the White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its directories.

The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.

Romilly’s selection for the cover of the White Pages® Business and Government book recognises her commitment to building a sustainable property industry in Australia and creating environmentally conscious, liveable communities.

A mother of three, volunteer lifesaver and Chief Executive of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), Romilly is making Australia’s built environment greener and cleaner.

Since 2006, Romilly has grown the GBCA’s membership from 205 members to 900, increased its annual income and significantly expanded its profile, nationally and internationally.

Her greatest achievement has been overseeing the growth of the Green Star environmental rating system, which has seen registered Green Star projects increase from 36 to 440 in five years. Australia now boasts Green Star-rated offices, schools, shopping centres, hospitals, industrial facilities and residential apartments.

Romilly’s work was recognised in 2009 when she won the Telstra Business Woman of the Year (Community and Government).

Green hero Matthew Wright features on the cover of Sydney’s Residential White Pages®, recognised for his efforts setting up Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE) to offer climate change solutions and to promote a healthy environment.

Since setting up BZE in 2002 when he was just 22, Matthew has significantly raised the profile of the organisation, stimulating an increased response to its climate change message.

As part of BZE’s current Zero Carbon Australia 2020 project, Matthew and his dedicated team are preparing and proposing transition plans for moving Australia to zero emissions within 10 years.

Matthew has received many accolades, including the Federal Environment Minister’s Young Environmentalist of the Year (2010) and EcoGen’s Clean Energy Young Industry Leader Award. He was also invited by actress Cate Blanchett to attend her climate change forum at the Sydney Theatre Company.

With their commitment and determination to create a sustainable future for Australia, Romilly and Matthew are true sustainability stars.
