White Pages Covers Program
Sustainable living enthusiast Malcolm McKelvie now a familiar face on the Warragul White Pages® cover
November 10, 2011
Yarragon resident Malcolm McKelvie has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Warragul Yellow Pages® and White Pages® book which was distributed throughout Warragul, Drouin, Wonthaggi, Leongatha, and Korumburra in May 2011.
Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its books.
The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.
Malcolm’s selection recognises his commitment to raising the profile of the Baw Baw Sustainability Network and increasing awareness of their work in the wider community.
Malcolm has been the President of the Baw Baw Sustainability Network since 2008. Formed to promote sustainable living in the West Gippsland and Baw Baw area, the Network is an independent not-for-profit group run by volunteers aiming to increase community awareness about climate change, run events to promote sustainability as well as educate local residents on sustainable practices.
Malcolm’s commitment to creating awareness around climate change issues has seen like-minded community members uniting to ensure a sustainable future.
“I believe it’s imperative that we look after the environment for our future generations. I’m committed to educating and inspiring local community members to make sustainability part of their everyday lifestyle, and communicating that even the small sustainability practices make a big difference,” said Malcolm.
Based in Yarragon, the Network hosts organic harvesting in the community garden where locals are encouraged to swap produce, share gardening advice, as well as participate in other events including sustainability skills workshops.
