White Pages Covers Program
Sustainable farming educator Rob Fenton to grace Albury White Pages® cover
October 27, 2011
Bethanga resident, Rob Fenton has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Albury Yellow Pages® and White Pages® book which was distributed to Albury, Corowa, Corryong, Holbrook, Wodonga and surrounding towns in February 2011.
Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its books.
The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.
Rob’s selection recognises his dedication to teaching farmers about sustainable food production practices, both at work and in his spare time.
As Head Teacher at National Environment Centre, Rob has been educating the community and landholders on how to create sustainable backyards, and ways to introduce sustainable farming practices.
One of Rob’s most significant initiatives has been helping school students re-engage with their studies by offering them work on an organic farm.
Outside of work, he also volunteers with a number of community projects and organisations, including Biological Farmers of Australia, an industry body for farmers.
“Making sure our farmers and community members are prepared for a changing climate is very important. I am just one of many in the area who are helping locals make sustainable adjustments and I’m very excited to be selected to feature on this year’s Albury book cover as a representative on this issue,” said Rob.
Rob’s commitment to the community has seen him awarded with a number of accolades including Dedication and Commitment to the Organic Farming Industry, and the state’s Excellence in Education and Training.
