Sensis’ fifth annual Sustainability Report was launched on Tuesday 14th December. The report details Sensis’ Sustainability strategy and commitments between 1st July 2009 and 30th June 2010 across the four key impact areas of Workplace, Marketplace, Community and Environment.

Highlights from 2009/10

It’s was a big year for Sustainability at Sensis, which included a world first for major directory publishers with the announcement in February that the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® print and online directories had been certified carbon neutral under the Australian Government’s Greenhouse Friendly™ program.

The carbon neutrality announcement was made as part of Sensis’ Commitment to Climate Change, which details how Sensis will play their part in combating climate change by: managing their footprint, working with suppliers, leading in product stewardship, supporting small business and connecting Australians.

Sensis also launched a new free resource for small and medium sized businesses titled ‘Small Business, Big Opportunity: Sustainable Growth’. The book was written in partnership with renowned environmentalist, Jon Dee, to help businesses be more efficient, improve their bottom line and reduce their impact on the environment.

Looking forward to the year ahead

There are lots of exciting initiatives planned for 2011, including Sensis’ transition to the Australian Government endorsed carbon neutral certification of the print and online directories. Other initiatives include introducing Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper stock for the paper used within the print directories as well as more sustainable packaging systems.

Sensis will also be releasing a Triple Bottom Line report, detailing the economic contribution, environmental impact and social value of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directories.
