Rockhampton resident Grant Cassidy has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Rockhampton Yellow Pages® and White Pages® book which will be distributed throughout Rockhampton, Emerald, Gladstone, Longreach and the surrounding areas from 18 June 2011.

Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its books.

The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.

Grant’s selection recognises his contribution to the growth and development of the region’s tourism industry through his role as volunteer chairman of Capricorn Tourism and Economic Development (CTED).

Since moving to the area in 2002, Grant has played a major role in increasing tourism to the region and boosting the local economy by developing CTED into a dynamic organisation that has elevated the region’s profile as a holiday destination nationally.

Most recently, Grant has been involved in the conceptual stages of a riverfront development project along the Fitzroy River, which aims to link the heritage and sporting precincts together and become yet another source of growth for the community.

“I am passionate about where I live and the future of the Rockhampton region and the surrounding areas. There is no doubt the community has had a difficult start to the year but I am optimistic about our future. The tourism industry will bounce back – we are still open for business,” he said.

On top of his tourism activities, Grant runs his own motel and award-winning restaurant business and can be credited as one of the first people to bring high-end dining and a cafe culture to the region.

Did you know? The previous local people to appear on the Rockhampton Yellow Pages® and White Pages® cover were:

2010/11: The 2010/11 Yellow Pages® and White Pages® featured Rockhampton and Gogango residents John Doyle and Neale Dunphy on the cover under the theme Courageous Australians. The pair bravely rescued a family trapped in a fast-flowing creek during the February 2009 flash floods.

2009/10: Gladstone resident Beryl Wood appeared on the 2009/10 Yellow Pages® and White Pages®cover under the theme Creative Australians: Inspiring our Communities. Beryl played a pivotal art role at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum and as the founder, director, costume and set designer for the Bunbury Players community theatre group.

2008/09: Rockhampton resident Graeme Acton graced the Celebrating Australian Flavour theme cover, acknowledged for his work in the local beef industry including the Acton Land and Cattle Company.
