White Pages Covers Program
Perth White Pages® celebrates green heroes Rosanne and Thom Scott and Jonathon Thwaites’ commitment to creating a better future
October 13, 2011
Perthsiders creating a better future Rosanne and Thom Scott and Jonathon Thwaites, have been selected to appear on the covers of this year’s Perth White Pages® books.
Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its books.
The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.
Rosanne and Thom’s selection recognises their passion for creating a sustainable community in the establishment of City Farm, an organisation that aims to promote productive, diverse and healthy urban environments.
Established in 1994 by Rosanne and volunteers, City Farm has become a hub for organic gardening, a workshop venue for people studying the environment and sustainability and the home of a weekly grower’s market that promotes local organic produce.
Rosanne and Thom have dedicated countless hours to making City Farm a success, organising and coordinating a range of programs at the site. All programs are intrinsically linked to their PEACE acronym: Permaculture, Education, Art, Community development and Enterprise.
Before stepping back from City Farm this year, Rosanne and Thom contributed to establishing Perth’s Urban Orchard, organising volunteers for the community gardening project.
Jonathon Thwaites graces the cover of the White Pages® Residential book in honour of his passion and commitment to sustainability in the establishment of the Perth Sun Fair, which aims to promote sustainable living concepts, technology, and lifestyles in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
In 2003, Jonathon established the Perth Sun Fair to raise awareness about environmental sustainability issues including renewable energy, energy efficiency, environmental conservation and natural living.
Through the fair, Jonathon has helped Perth’s residents gain a better understanding of sustainability practices, demonstrating that such lifestyle choices are not only environmentally sound but also cost-effective and attainable.
Since starting the event eight years ago, Jonathon has helped Perth Sun Fair grow from a community exhibition to a highly successful annual event. Jam packed with educational seminars, kids’ activities, music and entertainment, the Perth Sun Fair is a highly anticipated festival on Perth’s event calendar that attracts hundreds of locals each year.
With their commitment and determination to create a sustainable future for Australia, Rosanne and Thom Scott and Jonathon Thwaites are true sustainability heroes.
