Each year, locals are featured on the covers of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directories in recognition of the contributions they make to their communities. Under the theme Courageous Australians, this year directories producer, Sensis, is recognising courageous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.
After receiving nominations from community members for the annual honour, Kadina resident, David Rosewarne has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Yorke Peninsula directory which is distributed to Yorke Peninsula and Mid North Areas.
In 2004, David put his own life at risk when he courageously saved a man whose car had caught fire. David and his son, Henry, rushed to the man’s aid as the car ignited and began rolling towards their property. Together they pulled the man from the burning car unaware the motor was still running.
David bravely returned to the car which was still burning furiously and turned off the ignition to stop it from moving down the street. Without the heroic efforts of David and Henry, the man would certainly have lost his life, and the moving burning car could have caused further injury through damaging property.
“There wasn’t a chance to think twice, I just did what had to be done. Henry and I were lucky to get him out and stop the engine, without anyone getting seriously hurt,” said David.
For their actions, David and Henry were awarded with a Commendation for Brave Conduct from the Governor General and a Silver Medal from the Royal Humane Society in 2006.
Distribution of Yorke Peninsula Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 6 March 2010 and it will take approximately six weeks for the directories to be delivered to all households.
Sensis encourages residents and businesses to recycle their old directories. In most areas, Yellow Pages® and White Pages® can be recycled as part of normal kerbside recycling services. Visit www.recyclingnearyou.com.au to find out about recycling services in your area.
