Each year, local people are featured on the covers of the White Pages® directories in recognition of the contributions they make to their communities. Under the theme Courageous Australians, this year directories producer, Sensis, is recognising courageous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.

After receiving nominations from community members for the annual honour, Holland Park resident, Jonty Bush has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Brisbane directory.

Jonty has courageously overcome significant tragedies to implement a number of high profile anti-violence campaigns that raise awareness about domestic and alcohol-fuelled violence in Queensland.

After the murder of her younger sister, and the death of her father from an unprovoked attack, Jonty chose to raise her brother all the while becoming increasingly involved in campaigning for victims’ rights following the acquittal of her father´s perpetrator.

In 2007, Jonty facilitated the One Punch Can Kill campaign, aiming to change attitudes and behaviours amongst young people regarding senseless acts of violence. The campaign has since been adopted by the Queensland Government, and implemented throughout the State to increase the breadth of awareness of the issue.

One Punch Can Kill has directly resulted in a significant reduction of assaults in Queensland and created widespread community awareness of the dangers of alcohol fuelled violence.

“It’s a great honour to be featured on this year’s cover and I feel very proud to receive this recognition for the work I’ve done through One Punch Can Kill. It’s a campaign that’s very personal to me and I’m glad this campaign has played a part in creating a safer Queensland,” said Jonty.

Distribution of Brisbane White Pages® is planned to start on 11 September 2010 and it will take approximately nine weeks for the directories to be delivered to all households.
