Each year, locals are featured on the covers of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directories in recognition of the contributions they make to their communities. Under the theme Courageous Australians, this year directories producer, Sensis, is recognising courageous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.

After receiving nominations from community members for the annual honour, Jimboomba resident, Carole Caswell has been selected, to appear on the cover of this year’s Beaudesert directory which is distributed to Gatton, Boonah, Esk Districts, Beaudesert Districts and surrounding areas.

Carole’s son has severe intellectual disability due to an injury suffered at birth. Realising there were no local services to provide quality support for her son after he left school, Carole worked with other parents and the community to establish the Rural Lifestyle Options (RLO) which supports and cares for people with disabilities in the region.

As President of RLO, Carole has volunteered her time and experience to generate significant funding to operate RLO which now receives significant government funding each year and has become an award winning agency that has created jobs for 48 locals who help in providing accommodation, support, respite, training and employment opportunities for around 38 adults with a range of disabilities.

Despite losing her husband, Jeff, to cancer in 1998, Carole has maintained her energy and passion for assisting people to realise their potential. She is also committed to buying locally as her way of giving back to a community that has supported her since the inception of RLO.

“We indeed have come a long way. My heart sings when experts praise us for creating an award winning, best practice agency. It is one big team effort involving our voluntary committee, families, staff and most importantly our clients, as we strive for a client centred focus,” said Carole.

Distribution of Beaudesert Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 20 February 2010 and it will take approximately six weeks for the directories to be delivered to all households.

Sensis encourages residents and businesses to recycle their old directories. In most areas, Yellow Pages® and White Pages® can be recycled as part of normal kerbside recycling services. Visit www.recyclingnearyou.com.au  to find out about recycling services in your area.
