White Pages Covers Program
Courageous Australian Terry Giddy to appear on 2010/11 Kempsey Yellow Pages® and White Pages® Cover
February 11, 2010
Each year, locals are featured on the covers of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directories in recognition of the contributions they make to their communities. Under the theme Courageous Australians, this year directories producer, Sensis, is recognising courageous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.
This year, for the first time, there will be different directory covers for Taree, Port Macquarie and Kempsey, with each directory to feature a local person on the cover.
After receiving nominations from community members for the annual honour, Kempsey resident, Terry Giddy has been selected, to appear on the cover of this year’s Kempsey directory which is distributed to Port Macquarie, Forster, Gloucester, Kempsey, Lorde Howe Island, Nambucca, Taree, Wauchope and surrounding areas.
Terry has been a paraplegic since he was 15 years old as a result of a tree felling accident, but that has not hindered his determination and drive in becoming a record-setting Paralympian, spokesperson and mentor for others with disabilities.
Since joining a local sporting community in 1970, Terry has enjoyed great success as a professional sportsperson for over 36 years. Before retiring in 2006, he had competed in six Paralympic Games, three Commonwealth Games and won six world titles. He also held the Paralympics discus record for more than 20 years.
Terry’s work off the field has been just as admirable. He dedicates his time to giving motivational talks to local schools and charities, raises awareness about workplace safety and currently trains athletes on an international sporting level. His courage and bravery has been an inspiration to his community and others living with disability.
“I feel very fortunate to have achieved so much in my lifetime. I want to be able to empower those in similar situations to achieve the same success that I have enjoyed,” said Terry, who is also a family man, married to wife Margaret with whom he has three children and two grandchildren.
Distribution of Kempsey Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 13 February 2010 and it will take approximately six weeks for the directories to be delivered to all households.
Sensis encourages residents and businesses to recycle their old directories. In most areas, Yellow Pages® and White Pages® can be recycled as part of normal kerbside recycling services. Visit www.recyclingnearyou.com.au to find out about recycling services in your area.
