Each year, locals are featured on the covers of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directories in recognition of the contributions they make to their communities. Under the theme Courageous Australians, this year directories producer, Sensis, is recognising courageous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.
After receiving nominations from community members for the annual honour, Shepparton resident, Richard Trevaskis has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Shepparton directory which is distributed to Cobram, Deniliquin (NSW), Numurkah, Shepparton and surrounding areas.
Richard (Rich) Trevaskis is well known in the Shepparton area as former Mayor and a courageous cancer survivor who has continuously served his local community for 60 years.
Rich was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer eight years ago which is a condition that requires treatment for the rest of his life. This has not stopped him from contributing to local community initiatives and helping out fellow cancer patients. He is actively involved in Hume Region Health Services Committee where he assisted in writing a book about dealing with cancer.
Rich is also a passionate and long standing Shepparton Country Fire Authority member and volunteers at the annual Cancer Council Relay for Life initiative. For his contribution to Shepparton, Rich has been awarded an Order of Australia medal.
“I feel very humbled and honoured by this recognition of courage. I’ve always done what I can to make sure that myself and the residents of Shepparton enjoy living in a community with sufficient support and services. Being featured on the cover of this year’s directory was a real surprise but one I’ve appreciated, “ said Rich.
Distribution of Shepparton Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 6 March 2010 and it will take approximately six weeks for the directories to be delivered to all households.
Sensis encourages residents and businesses to recycle their old directories. In most areas, Yellow Pages® and White Pages® can be recycled as part of normal kerbside recycling services. Visit www.recyclingnearyou.com.au to find out about recycling services in your area.
