White Pages Covers Program
Courageous Australian Raymond Squires to appear on 2010/11 Barossa Valley Yellow Pages® and White Pages® cover
March 1, 2010
Each year, locals are featured on the covers of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directories in recognition of the contributions they make to their communities. Under the theme Courageous Australians, this year directories producer, Sensis, is recognising courageous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.
After receiving nominations from community members for the annual honour, Meningie resident, Raymond Squires has been selected, to appear on the cover of this year’s Barossa Valley directory which is distributed to Barossa Valley, Murray Lands, Riverland, South Coast and Kangaroo Island.
Raymond has been a long standing member of the South Australia Country Fire Service (CFS) and has attended many major fires throughout the South Australian regions rescuing countless numbers of lives and properties.
He began his 47 years of service with the CFS at the age of 15, and since then Raymond has led strike teams into large bushfires including the Kuipto Forrest, Coorung and Sydney fires. He also served four days straight during the fires which devastated much of Kangaroo Island in 2007.
“As a member of the Meningie CFS, and like many other firefighters across the country, I feel I have a commitment to my community. You put your own life at risk without a second thought to ensure the safety of others,” said Raymond.
Raymond is currently serving with the Meningie CFS where he continues to be on call around the clock to attend to local emergencies. For his ongoing service to the CFS he was honoured with an Australia Fire Service Medial in 2006 - the highest honour for anyone in the Australian fire services.
Distribution of Barossa Valley Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 3 March 2010 and it will take approximately six weeks for the directories to be delivered to all households.
Sensis encourages residents and businesses to recycle their old directories. In most areas, Yellow Pages® and White Pages® can be recycled as part of normal kerbside recycling services. Visit www.recyclingnearyou.com.au to find out about recycling services in your area.
