White Pages Covers Program
Courageous Australian Peter Crosswell on Hobart's White Pages
November 19, 2010
Sandy Bay resident, Peter Crosswell has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Hobart Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directory which will be distributed around Hobart and surrounding areas from 20 November 2010.
Mr Crosswell was selected to appear on the cover after he was nominated by members of the local community in Hobart.
Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its directories.
The theme for this year’s covers is Courageous Australians, a tribute to people throughout Australia who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.
Fittingly, Mr Crosswell’s selection recognises his work with Camp Quality Tasmania (CQ) where he spent 18 years dedicating countless hours of his time to helping children diagnosed with cancer, as well as supporting hundreds of families who are also affected by the disease.
In that time, Peter oversaw significant growth and expansion at CQ. In his first year, CQ supported 38 families and annual fundraising was $90,000 – Peter was CQ’s only employee. By 2009, the number of families CQ supported had grown to 140 and fundraising reached $600,000.
“My work with Camp Quality was such a fulfilling 18 years. Seeing the joy and support the programs brought to families and children made the hard work worthwhile,” said Peter.
Peter’s strength and devotion to Camp Quality is well recognised in the community, but he has also shown tremendous courage in his life outside the organisation. Peter was badly injured while shielding two friends to safety during the Port Arthur tragedy that took place in 1996.
Since leaving CQ earlier this year, Peter has recently taken up a position with Lifeline Hobart where he hopes to continue to make a positive difference within the local community.
Distribution of Hobart Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 20 November 2010 and will take approximately six weeks for the directories to be delivered to all homes and businesses.
