Each year, locals are featured on the covers of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directories in recognition of the contributions they make to their communities. Under the theme Courageous Australians, this year directories producer, Sensis, is recognising courageous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.

After receiving nominations from community members for the annual honour, Koolunga resident, Lachlan Nally has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Port Augusta directory which is distributed to Upper North, Far North and Eyre Peninsula.

In January 2008, Lachlan was only 11 years old when the car he was travelling in with his father veered off the road and rolled several times before coming to a stop in a paddock.

He sustained minor injuries but was alert enough to notice his father was unconscious. Rushing to his aid, he immediately gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation for several minutes until his father started breathing again.

Realising the urgency of the situation, Lachlan quickly climbed out of the car window, and ran for three kilometres in the dark, in his bare feet to eventually raise the alarm at the Koolunga Hotel.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after and praised Lachlan for his quick thinking which most certainly saved his father’s life. It was this courageous act that saw Lachlan recognised with a pride of Australia Medal for Bravery.

“I’m so proud of my son. He was so quick and calm during the situation and I owe him my life. It just shows that anyone of any age can be courageous. I’m delighted that Lachlan’s act has been recognised on this year’s White Pages directory,” said Lachlan’s father Matthew.

Distribution of Port Augusta Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 6 March 2010 and it will take approximately six weeks for the directories to be delivered to all households.

Sensis encourages residents and businesses to recycle their old directories. In most areas, Yellow Pages® and White Pages® can be recycled as part of normal kerbside recycling services. Visit www.recyclingnearyou.com.au to find out about recycling services in your area.
