Each year, locals are featured on the covers of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directories in recognition of the contributions they make to their communities. Under the theme Courageous Australians, this year directories producer, Sensis, is recognising courageous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.

After receiving nominations from community members for the annual honour, Wonthaggi resident, Jenny Renn has been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Warragul directory which is distributed to Foster, Korumburra, Leongatha, Warragul and Wonthaggi.

After losing her house in Tasmania to fire, Jenny moved back to Wonthaggi in 2002, but soon after suffered another setback. In an accident at her new home Jenny was set on fire, whilst she was lucky to escape, she unfortunately sustained third degree burns to 60 per cent of her body.

Jenny courageously undertook extensive treatment for six months to aid her recovery from the burns. This painful experience saw her become passionate about helping children with burns injuries.

In 2008, Jenny founded the Smiles on Faces fund for the Royal Children’s Hospital, which provides children in the burns unit with much needed distractions from treatment including digital cameras and MP3 players.

“Being a burns victim I know first hand how difficult it can be to overcome such a traumatising experience and the importance of knowing there is support available. Providing children with toys and entertainment during gruelling treatment provides happiness in what would normally be a sad, heartbreaking time,” said Jenny.

Distribution of Warragul Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 15 May 2010 and it will take approximately six weeks for the directories to be delivered to all households.

Sensis encourages residents and businesses to recycle their old directories. In most areas, Yellow Pages® and White Pages® can be recycled as part of normal kerbside recycling services. Visit www.recyclingnearyou.com.au to find out about recycling services in your area.
