Each year, locals are featured on the covers of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages® directories in recognition of the contributions they make to their communities. Under the theme Courageous Australians, this year directories producer, Sensis, is recognising courageous people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to overcome adversity and help others in their time of need.

After receiving nominations from community members for the annual honour, Bligh Park resident, Jennifer Maley has been selected, to appear on the cover of this year’s Windsor directory which is distributed to Richmond and Windsor.

In 2007, a client of hairdresser Jennifer Maley was severely ill and in desperate need of a kidney transplant. With a suitable donor potentially many months away, Jennifer bravely offered her kidney and was luckily identified as a match.

The transplant was a success, saving the life of her client and bringing them closer towards a life-long friendship.

Jennifer now actively raises awareness for the cause of organ donation, sharing her story with various community groups and offering support to future organ donors at Westmead Hospital on a volunteer basis. Her bravery and courage has earned her Rotary’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2008.

“My motto has always been, ‘one person cannot change the world but one person can change another person’s world,’” said Jennifer.

Distribution of Windsor Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 20 February 2010 and it will take approximately six weeks for the directories to be delivered to all households.

Sensis encourages residents and businesses to recycle their old directories. In most areas, Yellow Pages® and White Pages® can be recycled as part of normal kerbside recycling services. Visit www.recyclingnearyou.com.au  to find out about recycling services in your area.

Did you know? The past three local people who appeared on the Windsor Yellow Pages® and White Pages® cover were:

2009/10: Richmond resident Dorothy Phipps featured on the 2009/10 Yellow Pages® and White Pages® cover under the theme ‘Creative Australians: Inspiring our Communities’ for her work as president of the Richmond Players, the longest continually operating amateur drama group in New South Wales.

2008/09: For the 2008/09 ‘Celebrating Australian Flavour’ theme, David Mason from Grose Vale was selected for the cover as a result of his involvement with Hawkesbury Harvest, an organisation which helps drive tourism to the region by promoting monthly farmers’ markets and open farm days.

2007/08: In 2007/08, under the ‘Champions of our Community’ theme, Hawkesbury resident Margaret Ginnings appeared on the cover, recognised for her significant community contribution through the Friends of the Hawkesbury Art Collection & Regional Art Gallery Inc and also helping to establish the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery.
