Norton Summit residents Sue and Sean Delaney have been selected to appear on the cover of this year’s Adelaide White Pages® book, which will be available from 4 August 2011.

This is also the first time the Adelaide White Pages® books will appear in a new compact-sized format, which is lighter and more user-friendly while retaining the same comprehensive content.

Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its directories.

The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.

Sue and Sean’s selection recognises their commitment to sustainable practices and the environment in the establishment of eco-certified winery Sinclair’s Gully. Sinclair’s Gully is one of the only two cellar doors in Australia to complete an advanced eco-certification accreditation program.

On their 26 acre property, the Delaney’s have conserved an impressive 20 acres of fragile bush land, implemented a zero waste recycling program, and installed solar power to minimise their carbon and ecological footprint.

In 2009, the pair committed to minimising cardboard usage in the winery and introduced clear glass wine bottles to boost their recycling capabilities. These and other strategies have resulted in a 29 per cent reduction in gross emissions over two years.

As founding members of their Landcare group, the Delaney’s strive to improve the local environment through land conservation and sustainable business practice. They were awarded the National Landcare People’s Choice Award in 2010.

“With a passion for nature, and a love of great wine, we felt that Sinclair’s Gully was a great way to give back to the environment and reduce our carbon footprint. It’s humbling to be selected in recognition of what our work has brought to the Adelaide region,” said Sue.

Did you know? The previous three local people to appear on the Adelaide White Pages® cover were:

2010/11: Dr Bill Griggs was featured on the cover under the theme Courageous Australians. Bill is well known for managing evacuations and victim care in numerous large scale emergencies. One outstanding art of courage was when he saved the life of a police man who was shot 14 times during a siege.

2009/10: Influential arts figure Anthony Steel AM featured on the cover under the theme Creative Australians: Inspiring our Communities. Anthony was the first general manager of the Adelaide Festival and recently worked with the Meryl Tankard Australian Dance Theatre, Barossa Music Festival, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and State Opera of South Australia.

2008/09: Stephan Knoll from Magill appeared on the Celebrating Australian Flavour theme directory cover, recognised for his work as Chairman of Flavour South Australia.
